Our Tent May Be Too Large

by: RDemocrat

( - promoted by OneCarolinaGirl)

One thing that Democrats have always proclaimed about our party is that we have a "big tent". Within this big tent we have always excepted many different people from different walks of life. However, recent developments should show us all that sometimes a "big tent" is not the greatest thing in the world, especially in the world of politics. Perhaps we should consider the fact that quite possibly our "big tent" has outgrown itself.

We the Lobbyists of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Profit, establish Pay-to-Play, ignore domestic Tranquility, provide for the common Media, promote the general lack of Welfare, and secure the Extractions of Payments to ourselves and our Clients, do now usurp and re-establish this Constitution for the United Elites of America.

Confessions of a Madman -- that Cheney wants public?

Those extra 2 docs that "justify the policies of the past", that Cheney is so interested in, looks like one of them was already released.

I didn't believe the "A to Z" Confessions of the the "9/11 Mastermind" then. I'm not inclined to believe them now.

But you be the judge.

The Plum LineGreg Sargent's blog

Looks like Cheney may be after a doc that supposedly details what top Al Qaeda official Khalid Muhammad revealed under torture.

What Gives them the Right?

by: jamess

Tue Apr 28, 2009 at 20:18:20 PM EDT

(GOPer logic?... - promoted by poligirl)

The Chicken-hawks must be getting nervous -- because a few of them have actually started to resort to (-gasp-) Logic!

I've heard a new rationale floating around that fog, we call the Corporate Media, recently, which actually made me think, "Yeah, that makes sense." (sort of)

The New Talking Point goes something like this:

"If we are 'OK' with executing the Terrorists, behind 9/11, WHY do we have a problem with the harsh interrogation of them?"

This morning, a counter argument finally dawned on me --

"What (or Who) gives them the right, to be Judge, Jury, (Tormentor), and Executioner, all rolled into one?

A Few Bad Apples, can Spoil your Country's Good Name

Bush defends interrogation practices: 'We do not torture'

Spiegel Online - 11/14/2006
More than a few bad apples

The human rights groups have not just set their sights on Rumsfeld, though. The suit names 11 other high-ranking US officials, including current US Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, former CIA director George Tenet, and Ricardo Sanchez, the former commander of all US forces in Iraq. They are all accused of either ordering, aiding, or failing to prevent war crimes.

"There crimes are not the work of a few bad apples," said CCR president Michael Ratner. "They were planned and executed at the highest levels of the US government."

How the Wealthy Avoid paying their Fair Share (--used to)

by: jamess

(the wealthy pay more taxes sometimes... - promoted by poligirl)

No one LIKES paying Taxes, still we do it, year after year, because most of us still have a sense of Patriotic Duty.  This instinctive "love of Country" seems to have evaded some however, who often "love their Wealth" more than their Country ...

Experts estimate that Americans now have more than $1 trillion in assets offshore and illegally evade between $40 and $70 billion in U.S. taxes each year through the use of offshore tax schemes. U.S. corporations are estimated to illegally evade another $30 billion in taxes each year through offshore tax dodges. America's working people bear the burden of this $100 billion tax gap.

This has been a way of life for the wealthy, for the last 8 years. Fortunately, the IRS has NEW Marching Orders, to go after these Tax Evaders ...

GOP coming to terms with Loss -- the 5 Stages of Grief

by: jamess

Sat Apr 18, 2009 at 20:43:10 PM EDT

(an excellent analysis!... - promoted by poligirl)

The Kubler-Ross model, first introduced by Elisabeth Kübler-Ross in her 1969 book "On Death and Dying", describes, in five discrete stages, a process by which people allegedly deal with grief and tragedy, especially when diagnosed with a terminal illness or catastrophic loss.

  1) Denial:

"I feel fine."; "This can't be happening, not to me."

   2) Anger:

"Why me? It's not fair!"; "How can this happen to me?"; "Who is to blame?"

   3) Bargaining:

"Just let me live to see my children graduate."; "I'll do anything for a few more years."; "I will give my life savings if..."

   4) Depression:

"I'm so sad, why bother with anything?"; ... What's the point?"; "Why go on?"

   5) Acceptance:

"It's going to be okay."; "I can't fight it, I may as well prepare for it."

10 Goals for the Obama Administration

by: Laura Serena

Mon Nov 17, 2008 at 17:00:35 PM EST

(without goals, how will we know if we get there? - promoted by poligirl)

I struggled with the title of this piece. I was going to call it "10 things I expect from the Obama administration," but I don't actually believe Obama will do even half of these. Nevertheless, they are all vital to the health of our nation and necessary if we are going to truly get on the right track. I considered calling it "10 things the Obama administration should do," but that minimizes the necessity of these steps. I considered calling it "10 things the Obama administration must do," but in reality, many of these things will probably not be accomplished in eight years. Nevertheless, they are the direction we must be moving.

This is my personal manifesto on the most important goals for our nation. As you read this opinion piece, remember, I don't believe I'm asking for too much. I'm demanding the minimum I believe we all deserve from our leaders. The fact that many of these goals seem far off and nearly impossible for Obama to achieve is only evidence of how badly our previous leaders have failed us. I'm not saying these will be easy for Obama, or that he will achieve them. I'm saying they need to be goals he has clearly in sight and he must work persistently toward them.

A Declaration ... of the people's plight ...

" Drafted by Thomas Jefferson
between June 11 and June 28, 1776,
the Declaration of Independence is at once

the nation's most cherished symbol of liberty
and Jefferson's most enduring monument.

Here, in exalted and unforgettable phrases,
Jefferson expressed the convictions
in the minds and hearts of the American people
.

The political philosophy of the Declaration was not new;

its ideals of individual liberty
had already been expressed by John Locke
and the Continental philosophers.

What Jefferson did was to summarize this philosophy
in "self-evident truths"

and set forth a list of grievances
against the King

in order to justify before the world
the breaking of ties between the colonies
and the mother country. "

Corporate Wingnut Welfare. You as an individual simply don't count.

by: funluvn1

Just a short note to everyone regarding the buyout of Bear Stearns by the American government, er, J.P. Morgan.

Yes, I know you heard that J.P. Morgan bought them for approximately $2.00 per share.  The stock for this company was trading one year ago today at $159.36 per share.

The stock was trading for $62.00 one week ago today.

The stock opened today at $3.20 per share. That is at an upside to the discounted price that J.P. Morgan paid.  J.P. Morgan was guaranteed the money to purchase Bear Stearns by the US Fed.  Guaranteed. The. Money. By the US Government.
