Health care reform quick hits and commentary.
It's now as clear as it could be that seeking "bipartisanship" on health care is in no way pragmatic.
- Insurance companies are extremely unpopular.
- The Republican Party is extremely unpopular.
- The insurance lobby told Republicans that voting for reform means "giving comfort to the enemy."
- House Republicans are now chanting "Kill the bill!"
(The 2010 ads write themselves.)
- Voters want results more than they want a hollow bipartisanship visual.
- Watering down the legislation even further to possibly get Olympia Snowe's vote won't insulate Democrats from Republican attacks one bit. The only way to do that is to pass legislation that works, and have it take effect as soon as possible.
- If elected Democrats want their base to show up in 2010, they must deliver.
This isn't rocket science. |
