When Jesus heard that, he said to them, "Healthy people don't need a doctor; those who are sick do. I've come to call sinners, not people who think they have God's approval."
(emphasis added)
GOP Health Care Obstructionists, are you Listening???
The Pharisees, thought they were doing God's work too.
Imagine their surprise when this upstart Carpenter, from the old neighborhood, dared to stand up to their blatant self-righteousness ... and dish back to them some cold, hard truth ...
Perhaps one of the most relevant things this Carpenter had to say, to the self righteous religious leaders of that time, about caring for others, was this:
But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?"
In reply Jesus said: "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.
But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, took him to an inn and took care of him. The next day he took out two silver coinse and gave them to the innkeeper. 'Look after him,' he said, 'and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.'
"Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?"
The expert in the law replied, "The one who had mercy on him."
Jesus told him, "Go and do likewise."
(emphasis added)
"Go and do likewise." ... Hmmmm, good advice!
Sounds, like Jesus wants us to be more likethe Good Samaritan, and less like"those who look the other way"!
Here's a few more words of wisdom, that our runway Profit-based Society, would be wise, to take to heart:
For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.'
"They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?'
"He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.'
(emphasis added)
Kind of sounds like Jesus identifies with, the Poor, the Sick, the Imprisoned. Sounds like he wanted people to Help the down-trodden, doesn't it?
Well, Now that we have some vague idea, about "What would Jesus Do about Health Care" --
It's amazing that the conservative Rightwingers justify their Health Care Obstructionists, like Grassley, with the Political need to Block Reform, with excuses like:
"Grassley's keeping a finger in the dike of Health Insurance Reform,
and keeping Republicans informed, so they can complain loudly" --
Here are a few introspective Questions for those modern-day hypocrites (especially those who get their Talking Points from Fox News) --
Are you acting like the "Good Samaritan"?
Are you looking out for "the least among us"?
Are you really?
Dudes, WWJD?
What will YOU do, about helping the Sick and Needy?
About helping the 1 in 7 Americans WITHOUT Health Insurance?
About the 1 Million Americans who go bankrupt each year for lack of adequate Health Insurance?
Remember, there, but for the Grace of God, go I ...
